DENR – X Celebrates
Month of the Ocean 2023
“Sustainability feed the Global Population”
May is declared as the Month of the Ocean (MOO) by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 57, issued on 1999 by President Joseph Ejercito Estrada. For CY 2023, the DENR joins the celebration of MOO with the theme “Sustainability feed the Global Population.” adopted from the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030). It aims to highlight the conservation, protection and sustainable management of the country’s coastal and ocean resources.
Our ocean covers 70% of the Earth’s surface, it is the foundation of life, supports marine life and generates most of the air we breathe. It connects us all. The supply of food from capture fisheries and culturing activities is one of the major benefits that the oceans offer to human society.
In celebration of the MOO, the Regional Office and the respective PENROs of Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental implemented the following activities, to wit: 1) MOO Celebration Announcement; 2) Preparatory Meeting; 3) Clean-up activities; 4) Tree Growing Activities; and 5) Communication, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) Campaign.
